Halloween is a fun holiday. Kids are super excited about their costume (adults can get excited about theirs too!) and the adventure of walking around one’s neighborhood in the dark and viewing the costume creations of others is a big deal as a child. Getting to go from house to house and have someone dole out a handful of candy, just because you showed up, is something that happens only one day a year. When you think about it, what could be more fun than that? ..

I recently spent a few days in Iowa due to the loss of my mother-in-law. She lived 85 long years, didn’t suffer at the end, and was truly loved by her family and community. She came from a family of 11 children and many of her siblings had as many as 13 children. To say it was a large turn-out would be a huge understatement. And that’s just talking about family. Having been born and raised within several miles of where she spent her entire life, she knew, and was loved by, many people. ..

As a clinician and clinical nutritionist coming from America I was quickly struck by the lack of obesity in the Paris population. I cannot speak for the rest of the country, but Parisians are quite thin. Oh there was the occasional individual with a bit of excess flesh, but on the whole, overweight was uncommon and obesity was rare. The only 'fat' people I saw were the tourists! ..
